Our Favorite Women-Owned Cannabis Brands in Washington
You didn’t think we’d let March pass by without recognizing Women’s History Month, right? Despite the bleak fact that only 8% of cannabis CEOs are women, Washington has a handful of incredible women-owned cannabis brands worth celebrating. Last year we highlighted some badass women in the larger cannabis industry, but this year we want to dial it back and look at our local, women-owned Washington cannabis brands.

While we wait and push for the industry to catch up and put more women in leadership positions, let’s celebrate some of today’s women trailblazers in the i502 market.
Heylo
Most concentrates lovers in Washington will tell you Heylo is a special brand. Founded and led and Lo Friesen (a skilled chemist), the woman-owned company goes far beyond the products it makes, inviting the community to engage with the brand from hosting parties on boats to creating playlists that strive to match the moods their products create.
Using whole-bud, full-spectrum cannabis extracts, Heylo creates curated concentrates and vapes to help customers “get more out of life.” Their products often include rare terpenes and minor cannabinoids.
Founded in 2017, Heylo has taken on a life of its own in the Washington market. The company often opens its laboratory doors to the public for tours, taking their mission of transparency and education to the next level. It’s clear this brand wants consumers to be knowledgeable and empowered about the products they consume, and Heylo does a great job of sharing that knowledge through events, informative blogs, and tours.
Polite
Founded by a brother-sister duo and friend in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Polite has stepped up to serve the Washington cannabis community with a host of wellness-minded products backed by the expertise of its medical board.
Sue Tan and her brother, Yung, launched the company alongside Mary Brown, a cannabinoid therapy educator, researcher, and patient advocate. The goal? To empower people to feel better through clean, quality products.
Today, they offer warming and cooling cannabis topicals, a variety of wellness-minded cannabis tinctures, vapes, and even sprays with various therapeutic cannabinoids. They also offer a hemp-only line for those who want to avoid intoxication or THC in general. Talk about being polite!
Fairwinds
Founded in 2014 by Wendy and James Hull, Fairwinds has been raising the bar in the Washington industry for nearly a decade now. The team blends traditional herbal medicine with modern science and technology, creating quality and consistent products that keep customers coming back again and again.
With the help of chemists and medical advisors, the Fairwinds team leverages Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal formulas to blend with cannabis concentrates and create a potent product. Plus, they have a huge variety of products available at our Bellingham dispensary, Spokane pot shop, and beyond, from soothing tinctures and capsules to therapeutic topicals.
Constellation Cannabis
Growers of quality flower with distinct, biodegradable pre-roll packaging, Constellation Cannabis is the last in our list of women-owned cannabis brands in the state, but certainly not the least. “ Our farm is female-owned and family managed. We are proud of this fact as it allows us to stay close to the market and our customers, take care of our employees, and grow at a pace that allows us to maintain our standards,” reads their website.
But it doesn’t end with the farm, flower, and potent, infused pre-rolls Constellation makes – the company also ventures into extracts like BHO and ice water hash, as well as gummies. Plus, they offer a solventless line for those who prefer the cleanest of the clean.
Our top picks from our favorite women-owned cannabis brands in Washington
Now that we’ve filled you in on some of our favorite women-owned Washington cannabis brands, let’s take a look at some of our top picks for each. Use this as a jumping off point, as different tastes, needs, and preferences can lead you to find something that works even better for your lifestyle.
As far as Heylo goes, we’re big fans of the CBGeezus Pax pod. It’s filled with a CBG-specific blend (CBG is a minor cannabinoid known for its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties) with a ratio of 2.5:1 CBG/THC. We love the uplifting effects we get from this blend, and find it pairs well with a sunshiney walk through the park. The ratio of THC and CBG makes for a very mild intoxicating effect that doesn’t overwhelm the senses.
Our favorite pick from Polite is the Warming Relief topical roll-on. This product blends CBD, CBG, CBN, and THC together for a soothing, therapeutic effect. Beyond that, they include menthol, camphor, clove bud, lavender, and arnica. The result is a delightfully aromatic topical that quickly provides a rush of warmth and comfort to any affected area.
Fairwinds won us over years ago with their therapeutic tinctures. While difficult to choose just one (after all, they have a tincture for just about every occasion), we have to go with the PM Defense tincture, which, much like Polite’s pain relief tincture, blends CBD, CBG, CBN, and a small dose of THC together for a comforting effect. It’s perfect for winding down after a long day of work, especially if your body is feeling tired and stiff.
Our top Constellation Cannabis pick goes to their infused pre-rolls, which come in gorgeously decorated, biodegradable containers. These joints are small but powerful, making them the perfect portable addition to any outdoor adventure.
We didn’t cover every woman-owned Washington cannabis brand, and we hope one day the list is long enough that we can’t even fathom trying to round them all up. As we wait for the industry to catch up and welcome more women leadership, let’s remember to support these and other women-owned brands whenever possible.
